Towers

St John the Evangelist, CoulsdonThere are 71 towers in The Surrey Association.  Details of each tower are given in this section (bells, the church, access, contact details and more...).  

Use map to search for a tower or the tower directory for a listing of all towers in the Association.  An intergrated search feature will help you to refine your search by district, number of bells, practice night and whether the tower has a ground floor ring or not.

Email addresses are given for most tower correspondants.  However, if no contact information is present for a particular tower, please email the District or gensec [at] surreybellringers [dot] org [dot] uk (Subject: Surrey Association web site enquiry) (General Secretary).  The Who's Who page has a listing of all current District secretaries who can be contacted for further information.

Featured Tower

The tower pictured on the right is St John the Evangelist, Coulsdon.  This tower is one of three 5 bell tower in the Association, but the only one where bells are rung full circle (the other two being at Chipstead were the bells are chimed, and Tandridge were the bells are unringable).  The bells were cast in the 17th century and re-hung in 1991.   

Tower Announcements

Below are some short announcements for one off changes to practices nights and temporary cessation of ringing practices.  Please contact the tower correspondent for more information.

Burstow Due to excess tower movement, ringing is currently suspended at St Bartholomew Burstow. Ringing will resume once remedial work has been carried out.

Clapham RC Ringing has been suspended until further notice due to poor state of tower.

Coulsdon Ringing has been suspended while remedial work to the ringing room floor takes place.

Esher All ringing suspended until further Notice while restoration work takes place on the spire.  This is likely to be until November but this will be confirmed when work is nearer completion.  The Esher band intends in the meantime to meet and ring with the band at Christ Church Epsom Common.
