Twice a year we have training days. We meet up in March at Wimbledon and in November at Bletchingley. From these bases, small groups go to nearby towers for a morning and afternoon session each of two hours to study and ring anything from basic handling up to – well – the sky’s the limit but the highest level achieved recently has been Grandsire Triples.
Typically each training day has around eight groups consisting of a Group Leader, about six students and an equal number of experienced helpers. Following the afternoon session all return to base for well-earned tea and cakes and further evening ringing for those with any remaining energy.

This is a group of volunteers set up to visit local practices for a period of about a month to “beef up” the practice and help the local ringers to make and consolidate progress.
Here is how it works. A tower wants to move on a step. It has the people with the potential but not the expertise to move, say, from Plain Hunt to Bob Doubles; from Bob Doubles to Bob Minor; from Bob Minor to Treble Bob or Surprise Minor; from Grandsire Doubles to Triples and so on. The local tower captain asks the Training Officer and he organises the “task force” to come with the numbers required at the dates agreed with the local tower.
