History

The church dates from 1086, although there is evidence that it was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The stained glass windows were cast in the William Morris factory and the Belfry sports three interesting, but undated, murals. The bells were originally cast in 1729 at the Whitechapel foundry. Major work was carried out in 1923 when a new Treble was added and the 4th and Tenor bells recast. Mears completed the work by installing new fittings, re-hanging and retuning the peal.

Transport

  • By Road: The Church is located on the western outskirt of the town, just North of the A25 (Godstone - Westerham road) with access from M25 at junction 8. Car park adjoins the church.
  • By Bus: From Caterham, Redhill and Sevenoaks.
  • By Train: From Victoria and London Bridge to Oxted station, with 5 minute walk along Station Road and Church Lane.

Facilities

Toilet facilities are available in the station, Morrisons, and if open, in the Community Hall by the church car park.

The nearest pub is 5 minutes walk away in Station Road West - The Oxted Inn (Wetherspoons) has a small children's section. The town has several restaurants in both Station Road East, and West, together with the coffee shop in the Morrisons store. Fast-food is available in the Pizza Express (Station Road East) which has excellent service and is ‘child-friendly’.  For traditional pub food try the Barley Mow, Trandridge Lane, or the George Inn, High Street, Old Oxted.
