History

The church was built in 1895/6 of local quarried stone, the foundation stone being laid on 14th September 1895 by the Archdeacon of Kingston-upon-Thames. The Consecration by the Bishop of Rochester took place on 15th April 1896. The tower was added in 1902 and the bells, cast by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough, were presented by Mr R Ernest Alexander, the names of his family being inscribed on the six bells. They were first rung on 23rd May 1902.

The bells were overhauled and rehung with new gudgeons and ball bearings in 1949 by Gillett & Johnson of Croydon, who also made the church clock. Interestingly, the tower was originally in the Kent County Association.
