History

There has almost certainly been a church on this site since Anglo Saxon times and, like many churches, the present building has evolved slowly over the centuries. The tower was built in the 15th century, the nave dates from1824, and the east end is Edwardian. An inventory of 1545 states that St. Martin’s possessed “4 belles and a handbell” but by 1824 this had grown to a peal of 8. These were recast by Mears and Stainbank in 1920, when a further two bells were added to make the present ring of 10.

Transport

  • By Road: Approach via the A24 - High Street Epsom, the church is at the East end of the town on the left hand side of the B284 - Epsom to Burgh Heath Road. It is usually possible to park in car park in front of the church main entrance.
  • By Train: To Epsom station from Victoria and 10 minute walk to the church.

Facilities

Toilets are available in the adjoining Church House when open.

The Olde King’s Head is directly opposite the church but only provides lunchtime bar snacks. There are a number of pubs, restaurants and the usual fast-food outlets just 5 minutes away in the town centre.
