History

The church was built by Redemptorist Order in the mid 19th century, with a ring of 6 bells installed a few years later. These were augmented by the addition of two Trebles in the 1920s to make up the existing ring of 8.

Transport

  • By Road: Church is sited opposite Clapham Common Tube station - on the corner of the junction of the A3 (London - Portsmouth road) with the A2217. Parking is restricted to residents only from Monday to Friday, but on Saturdays and Sundays use St. Alphonsus Road which lies one road below, and parallel to Clapham Park Road.
  • By Bus: Routes 35, 37, 50, 88, 137, 155, 249, 322, 345 and 417 all pass the church.
  • By Train: From Victoria to Clapham High Street station or to Balham station then take the Northern Line to Clapham Common. Alternatively, train to Clapham Junction then take bus to Clapham Common.
  • By Tube: To Clapham Common (Northern Line) with church just across the road.

Facilities

Public conveniences are next to the Tube Station but open only between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. Sainsbury’s in the High Street are open until 10.00pm daily and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sundays.

Pubs, wine bars and restaurants abound in the High Street together with many fast-food outlets.
