History

The church was dedicated in 1882, 30 years after the railway line was constructed which had spurred on the development of Caterham in the Valley. The bells however did not arrive until 1975 from St. Mary the Virgin Lambeth when that church was closed. The Peal Boards were also transferred from Lambeth and date from 1777(Ancient Society of College Youths). The bells range in date from 1723 to 1822, and were cast by the Whitechapel foundry. They are hung in a steel frame below the level of the louvers. There is also a ninth ‘Sanctus’ bell, hung above the others dating from 1911.
