History

Church dated 1548. 3 bells were first mentioned dated 1681. In 1900, the 4th, 5th and 6th bells dated 1860 and 1892 were recast and all the bells rehung in an iron frame.

Transport

  • By Road: On the left of the A25 midway between Reigate and Dorking. Car parking spaces available in front of the church. Please avoid the front of shops.
  • By Bus: By route 32 (Redhill - Dorking), ask for Buckland Village Stores & Post Office. The church is close by, with the village pond and picturesque green beyond.
  • By Train: Use Redhill to Guildford line. Buckland Church is 1 mile east from Betchworth station, a 20-minute walk down Pebble Hill and turning left along Dorking Road (A25). NB only some trains stop at Betchworth.

Facilities

No toilet on site; facility sometimes available in Reading Room (200 yards west along Old Reigate Road).

This narrow, bus served lane, also leads to The Red Lion, ‘child friendly’ with beer garden, and car parking. Concentrates on ‘restaurant’ trade and may need pre-booking. Also quality ‘Bed and Breakfast’ is available. In the opposite direction, 1 mile on the right towards Reigate is The Jolly Farmers, an upmarket deli themed pub with food.
