History
The church is Victorian, an example of Gilbert Scotts architecture with the building completed in 1851. In 1887 the four bells were made up to eight (26cwt) by Taylors. They were replaced in 1912 by a fine ring of 10, cast by the local firm of Gillett & Johnson. These bells remain today, with two new trebles cast by Whitechapel and installed in February 2002 by Whites of Appleton, and are readily available for Saturday peals and other visitor ringing.
Transport
By Road: The church is in South End Croydon, just to the east of the A235 (Croydon - Purley road). The spire is clearly visible on the rise of St. Peters Road to South Croydon station. Parking in the area is Pay and Display metered, with local council tow away policy!
By Bus: Routes 312 and 466 run from East Croydon station to South End Croydon with the church visible 3 minutes walk away. Routes 60 and 407 run through West Croydon, alight in South End with a short walk to the church.
By Train: To East or West Croydon stations from Victoria, London Bridge or Thameslink, and then bus or train to South Croydon station (NB restricted stopping), which is a stones throw from the church.
Facilities
Croydon abounds with pubs, restaurants and fast-food outlets. Immediately local and opposite the church is the Croham Arms, a friendly pub serving bar food. On the corner of Heathfield Road and Selsdon Road, adjoining the church but in the opposite direction, is an excellent take-away Fish and Chip shop. A Wetherspoon pub, the Skylark, is not far away and excellent value.
